Summer is fun, but let’s be honest… it can also completely throw your routines out the window.
Later bedtimes. More snacks. Random dinners. A little less structure. Maybe your workouts got inconsistent, your house feels like it has been lived in by approximately 27 people, and the calendar is somehow already filling up with school events and activities.
And that’s okay.
I don’t need a giant life overhaul every time a season changes. I just needed a small reset to help me feel a little more organized, energized, and ready for what’s next.
Here’s what I’m focusing on.
I’m Getting Back Into a Routine
During the summer, our schedule gets pretty loose. And while I love that about summer, I also know that I function better when I have some structure.
So instead of trying to completely reinvent our routine, I’m going back to a few basics:
- Getting up and going to bed around the same time
- Getting the kids back into a more predictable evening routine
- Planning out our week before it starts
- Getting a few easy meals ready to go
- Making sure we’re not scheduling every single minute of the week
The goal isn’t perfection. It’s just having a general idea of what’s happening before Monday morning rolls around.
I’m Getting Back to Moving My Body
Summer workouts can be hit or miss, especially when the kids are home and everyone’s schedule is different.
So I’m getting back to making movement a regular part of my week.
For me, that means continuing my workouts, walking at least 5 days a week, and simply being more intentional about moving my body.
I’m not trying to “make up” for anything I did or didn’t do this summer. I’m just getting back to something that makes me feel good.

I’m Simplifying Meals
One of the biggest things that makes a busy week feel harder than it needs to be is figuring out what’s for dinner at 5 p.m.
So I’m getting back to planning a few meals each week and keeping some easy options on hand.
I’m also leaning into things that make future-me’s life easier:
- Doubling recipes when I can and freezing half
- Keeping easy lunch and breakfast options available
- Prepping a few ingredients ahead of time
- Having a couple of “I don’t feel like cooking” meals ready to go
I don’t need a perfectly planned meal-prep Sunday. I just need to make the next few days a little easier.
I’m Making Time for Myself Again
This is probably the biggest part of my reset.
When summer gets busy, the little things that make me feel like me are often the first things to go.
So I’m making time for some simple self-care again.
That might be doing my nails, taking a few extra minutes with my skincare routine, getting a workout in, reading a book, or simply sitting down with my coffee before the day gets crazy.
Nothing fancy.
Just little things that remind me that taking care of myself doesn’t have to be complicated or time-consuming.

I’m Resetting My Space
I’m also doing a little reset around the house.
Not a “clean every closet and reorganize my entire life” kind of reset.
Just the areas that tend to make me feel the most scattered.
A little decluttering. Putting things back where they belong. Getting the kids’ stuff organized. Clearing off the kitchen counters.
Sometimes having a little more order around me makes it much easier to feel like I have a little more order in my head, too.
I’m Giving Myself a Fresh Start—Not a New Life
I think that’s the biggest lesson I’m taking into this next season.
I don’t need to become a completely different person because summer is over.
I don’t need a complicated morning routine, a strict meal plan, or a list of 25 new habits.
I just need to get back to the things that make our days run a little smoother and make me feel like myself.
A few small changes can make a surprisingly big difference.
So if you’re looking at the calendar and thinking, How is summer already almost over?!—maybe you don’t need a major reset either.
Pick a few things.
Get back into a rhythm.
Make your days a little easier.
And give yourself permission to start small.
That’s the kind of reset I’m going for this season.
