Mother’s Day is supposed to feel special.

But if I’m being honest, it can also feel like… a lot.

There’s this pressure for it to look a certain way:

  • the perfect day
  • the perfect gifts
  • everyone happy and grateful the whole time

And real life doesn’t always work like that.

There are still kids who wake up early.
There are still messes.
There are still moods and schedules and all the normal things that don’t magically pause just because it’s Mother’s Day.

So over time, I’ve started looking at it a little differently.

💛 I’ve Let Go of the “Perfect Day”

I don’t expect the whole day to go perfectly anymore.

That alone has made a huge difference.

Because instead of feeling disappointed when something doesn’t go as planned, I can just enjoy the parts that do feel good.

☕ I Think About What I Actually Want

Not what I’m “supposed” to want.

For me, it’s usually simple:

  • a slower morning
  • not having to plan meals
  • a little time to myself
  • feeling like me again for a minute

Not a packed schedule.
Not anything over the top.

Just a few things that make the day feel easier.

🧠 I Say It Out Loud

This one took me a while.

But expecting people to just know what you want usually leads to frustration.

So now, I say it.

Nothing dramatic—just simple things like:

  • “I’d love a little quiet time in the morning”
  • “Can someone else handle dinner?”

And it makes the whole day better for everyone.

✨ I Keep It Simple

I’m not trying to do a full routine or get completely ready for the day.

But I do like to do a couple small things that help me feel put together.

Because that changes how the whole day feels.

💛 It Doesn’t Have to Be Perfect to Be Good

That’s probably the biggest shift.

Mother’s Day doesn’t have to look perfect to feel meaningful.

It can be simple.
A little messy.
Very real.

And still be a really good day.

If you’ve been feeling pressure around Mother’s Day, this is your reminder—you get to decide what you actually want it to look like.

And if you need a simple, easy gift idea (or want to send a hint 😉), I’ve got a few favorites linked in the images below.

Coordinating nail polish, cuticle balm, and it’s gift wrapped? Yes, please!

Literally all she’d ever want for her lips.

If you know she loves neutral nails, this is a guaranteed win.
