If you scrolled through social media, you’d probably think everyone’s summer is filled with vacations, elaborate crafts, and perfectly planned adventures.
Ours?
It’s a little simpler than that.
Our weekdays almost always start the same way. We head to Burn Boot Camp first thing in the morning. The boys get to play in Child Watch while I get my workout in.
Those 45 minutes are one of the best parts of my day. I leave with more energy, a clearer mind, and I love knowing my boys are growing up seeing that taking care of your health is simply part of life.
Once we’re home, it’s time for workbooks.
Before any screen time, each of the boys spends a little time working ahead for the next school year. It’s not hours of schoolwork—just enough to keep their minds active while still letting summer be summer.
After that? Every day looks a little different.
Some days we head to the library to pick out another stack of books. Other days we visit Grandma, explore somewhere around St. Louis, catch a movie, play in a creek, or find a new adventure for the day. We don’t have a perfectly planned schedule, but we do try to make the most of our time together.

In between all of that are laundry loads that never seem to end, work squeezed into the quieter moments, and lots of healthy snacks. Fruit, cheese sticks, yogurt, nuts, and other grab-and-go snacks are always available.
By evening, everyone is ready to slow down.
When it’s too hot outside, you’ll usually find us around the kitchen table playing a game or curled up on the couch for family movie night.
Some nights we read together before bed, and then the boys head to their rooms with another book to finish the day.
It’s not a picture-perfect summer.
There are dishes in the sink. There are laundry baskets waiting to be folded. There are days when our plans change completely.
But when I look back on these months, those aren’t the things I’ll remember.
I’ll remember the books we read, the afternoons spent exploring somewhere new, the laughs around the game table, the conversations in the car, and the little routines that made our days feel steady.
This is what summer looks like around here. And honestly? I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
