Every year, I picture summer feeling slower.
And every year, it somehow still ends up busy.
There are camps, vacations, sports schedules, appointments, cookouts, late nights, grocery runs, and somehow everyone is hungry literally all day long. 🤪
So this year, before summer gets too full, I’m trying something different:
I want summer to start simple.
Not perfectly organized.
Not packed with activities.
Not a Pinterest-worthy bucket list.
Just… simpler.
Because I’ve realized that when I overcomplicate summer, I usually end up missing the parts I actually enjoy most.
The best moments are rarely the ones that take the most planning.
It’s sitting outside for dinner.
A quick trip for ice cream.
Watching the kids ride bikes up and down the street.
A family game night.
A walk while the sun stays out later than usual.

Those are the moments I want more of this year.
So I’m simplifying where I can.
I’m planning easier meals.
I’m trying not to overschedule every week.
I’m keeping simple routines, so our days still have some structure without feeling rigid.
And I’m also trying to make space for myself this summer too.
That might look like:
Going for a walk
Reading for a few minutes before bed
Doing my nails
Taking time for skincare
Saying yes to rest without feeling guilty about it

Because moms deserve to enjoy summer too.
Not just manage it.
I think sometimes we enter summer already overwhelmed because we feel pressure to make it magical for everyone else.
But maybe summer feels better when we stop trying to do the absolute most.
Maybe simpler really is enough.
So if you’re heading into summer feeling like you need a reset too, this is your reminder:
You do not have to fill every day to make summer meaningful.
Sometimes the simplest summers end up being the ones we remember most.
